Getting from the airport
Gone are the days with Kai Tak and the roof-clipping landing. Now you're gonna be landing on a man-made landmass in Lantau and will need to travel for over an hour to get to college. But it's not all bad, this airport continues to win some awards every year, like 'Best Airport Worldwide', and having 'Best Airport Facilities'. You'll enjoy it for sure.
There're a number of ways to get from the airport back to college and into town: (Here's an address label if you'd like to show it to your driver: Label)
- Taxi
Fastest and easiest. If you're going straight back to college, take the green taxi, it should cost about HKD 300 and take about 1.5 hours. If you're going to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, take the red taxi, and it takes about 1 hour to get to most destinations. Another alternative for getting to Kowloon or Hong Kong Island is by the Airport Express, see below. Taking the red taxi back to college will cost about HKD 350.
[You may also ask your ex-roommate to pick you up from airport and get a discount taxi (illegal, but very popular) to your desired destination. You will get on the taxi at a carpark, so better find someone who knows the way around the airport to take you.]
- Airport Express
A train that runs from the airport into town, in under 30 minutes. The last stop of the train is Hong Kong station, located in Central, with another stop before that in Kowloon, near TST (train map). Ticket price for airport to Hong Kong station is HKD 100, to Kowloon station is HKD 90.
When you leave Hong Kong, both stations also offer in-town check-in service for most major airlines.
See here for more information.
- Bus
There isn't a bus that goes directly from the airport to college. The closest one is bus A41P, that goes from the airport terminal to Ma On Shan Town Center (get off at "Bayshore Towers" or "Villa Athena"). From there you'll need to take a taxi back to college. The entire bus trip costs HKD 25. Anywhere else, check here.
